Oksana Gentish, Tolk: How to save electricity

 Tolk

In Ukrainian realities, the price of electricity is not a constant value, but a dynamic indicator of the situation in the energy system. That is why conscious enterprises that have hourly metering should learn not only to consume, but also to manage consumption. ASKOE, market analysis, understanding schedules is no longer an “additional option”, but a tool for real savings. The experience shared by Oksana Gentish, director of Volynelectrozbut (Tolk Group), is a vivid example of how decisions made on the basis of data are transformed into financial results.

The modern energy market requires not just paying for electricity, but understanding how and when to consume it. Market prices for electricity are formed hourly – a day in advance. This means that by noon today we know exactly how much each hour of consumption will cost tomorrow. And this gives businesses unique opportunities to save.

Savings through consumption schedule correction

One of our clients – a manufacturing company – shared their experience. Initially, it worked mainly at night, when prices are traditionally lower. However, after analyzing the real hourly tariffs through the ASKOE system, the management concluded that electricity is cheaper at certain times of the day than at night. The company reconfigured the production process – shifted the load to cheaper daytime hours, and almost completely removed the evening peak hours from the schedule.

The result? In just one month – savings of almost 60 thousand hryvnias on 50 thousand kWh. This is more than a hryvnia for each kilowatt-hour. In November, thanks to the optimization of the consumption schedule, the price of electricity for the consumer decreased from UAH 5 to UAH 4.22/kWh, and in May – from UAH 4.42 to UAH 3.08/kWh. And all this is due to the correctly chosen operating hours of the enterprise.

Sun, wind and daytime profit

Due to the active growth of the share of “green” generation – especially solar – the price structure is changing in Ukraine. In 2025, daytime electricity will become cheaper than nighttime. This means that consumers should reconsider their usual approaches: what was once profitable no longer works the same way today. At some hours of the day, energy may cost less than UAH 1, while the evening peak is 3-4 UAH/kWh.

Average price on the bill is not always an indicator

Many consumers mistakenly focus only on the average price on the bill. But this figure is based on hourly consumption superimposed on the hourly price. Therefore, in order to truly manage costs, you need to know: when and how much you consume. And this is exactly what the ASKOE system is needed for.

What ASKOE gives

The ASKOE system allows you to see the real picture of consumption. The supplier, in turn, can use this data to help you understand at what times it is most profitable to consume, which production processes should be postponed, and which should be left unchanged. This is especially important for enterprises with flexible schedules or night shifts.

If you have your own generation

A separate topic is enterprises with solar generation. We often encounter the fact that the owners of such stations sell electricity on the market during the day, when prices are minimal, and consume it during expensive hours. But instead of selling electricity for pennies, it is more profitable to direct it to your own consumption. This allows you to save not only on the purchase of electricity, but also on payment for distribution and transmission services. According to our calculations, the savings can be up to 5 UAH per kWh.

Conclusion

Energy literacy is not just a trend, but a real necessity. The presence of an ASKOE, regular analysis of the consumption schedule and readiness for change are the things that allow enterprises not just to “survive”, but to develop. The supplier can and should help, but the initiative is yours.
